An article published in October 2016 by Hacker & Young showed that Spelthorne was number 6 in the country for new business start-ups. This was compared to 356 other towns in the country.  

This has continued with established small businesses still thriving in Spelthorne and many more choosing Spelthorne to start their business in. To build on this success and to celebrate our small businesses we introduced the Spelthorne Business Awards in 2018. Winners have ranged from printing companies to dance studios, crisp manufacturers to retail enterprises and has become an annual event.

To further support start ups and early stage businesses Spelthorne Borough Council opened its own business incubator in Sunbury on Thames in 2021.

The incubator will provide a co working environment alongside an exciting programme of business support.

The incubator is less than 5 miles from Heathrow airport and benefits from excellent transport links connecting you to London, the South East and beyond.

This new facility offers hot desks, permanent desks and serviced office facilities. In addition it will be supported by a wide range of workshops, seminars and events for the whole business community to take advantage of.
